Performers at the Vespers

What is St. Louis Jazz and Blues Vespers?

St. Louis Jazz and Blues Vespers is a monthly professional concert featuring the best jazz and blues performers in St. Louis in one of the most acoustically resonant halls in the metro area. The performers play and sing their best music, their favorite numbers. They have the treat of performing to an appreciative, diverse audience where they are not competing with food and conversation. In this great concert setting, audiences truly get to know the performers and enjoy their artistry “up close.”

St. Louis Jazz and Blues Vespers is sponsored by the historic Second Baptist Church in its Sanctuary of the Beatitudes. The professional bands will perform two sets of music and in between the two sets, the church’s pastor, Dr. Stephen Jones, will offer a brief, non-sectarian inspirational message. An offering will be taken to support the musicians.

There are no tickets, no entry costs, no reservations necessary. It’s just 100 minutes of St. Louis’ best jazz and blues with an inspirational interlude. Now, in its second season, jazz and blues vespers will be held the third Sunday evening of these months: October, November, January, February, March and April (monthly, except December). There is free, lighted adjacent parking at the church.

The Sanctuary of the Beatitudes was designed in 1957 with musical acoustics very much in mind. Groups that perform in this spacious room rave about the bright sound the venue offers. A new 7’6” Yamaha Concert Series Piano is available for groups to use.

The St. Louis Jazz and Blues Vespers is designed for the general public and persons of all faiths.

Second Baptist Church is easy to reach: 9030 Clayton Road, St. Louis, MO 63117. It is ½ mile west of the St. Louis Galleria and one mile on McKnight Road north of the Highway 40/I-64 interchange.
